HRG Community Resources, Guide & More

We find Resources for low income, homeless and report news about local trends and what's going on in the community

2022; First time temps. are in the teens. Some things you should know..

Are you prepared for cold weather? Have a winter coat?

There are many agencies and Organizations that can help with some of the material needs. Also this time of year so many want to give. Here are some of the most needed clothing items and some food items that local organizations are looking for & give out to the community in need!

Let’s start with some Organizations, Church groups & non-profits that help low income/no income residents, which includes homeless & families. You can also ask your local food pantries if they have clothing donations too. Some of them do have clothing donations or know where to go for clothing. Here are some of the main ones that can use donations of NEW winter clothing and they, of course will give to thoughts in need locally in the community! Transition professionalsHousing health & human services centerOperation chill outNJ Food and clothing rescueEmmanuel Christian churchThe River Mission! It beginning to feel a lot like winter, everywhere you go…. (finally)! If you like bugs, damp, steamy, unbearably hot days, don’t worry, your days are only about 4 months away, so just hang in there (I’m being sarcastic) about the bugs and sticky part of course! For most of us who like the fresh clean brisk northern air, it’s the best time of the year! Unfortunately, your heating bill can be a problem! One important thing to note is that  Utility shut offs in NJ have been extended. Also, when it comes to evictions, according to the NJ court’s PIO, Evictions due to back rent owed have resumed. We need to hear about this in the news and the governor has not said a thing recently. One thing we don’t want with this cold weather is a tsunami of evictions. According to the Court NJ’s PIO they stated in a comment; “The Judiciary resumed trials in September 2021 and evictions have been moving forward.” Here is an NJ court page that might have updated information, you can email them as well, because it seems the NJ Govt. is not making it really clear on the eviction and proceedings process.

Code Blue NJ; Are you ready, are you aware of the newest Code Blue laws in NJ?

What is code blue in NJ?

A temperature is 32 degrees is what to look for, no more playing around with over night precipitation, just 32 degrees as stated in ASSEMBLY, No. 1595. County OEM’s must promote/activate and announce publicly that warming centers are open, 48 hours prior to the event! 211 is the NJ contracted homeless hotline and they are listing the warming centers when counties activate code blue and report it to 211! (211 won’t take the blame if the county does not let them know) Cover photo: Coalition For The Homeless; Code Blue, Extreme Cold – Code Blue for NY; average 688 deaths each year were due to hyperthermia.
