Possibly during and especially after Memorial day, most likely it will be, will get dangerously hot this late spring and summer! Similar to Code Blue, Many states have a #CodeRed for summer! The bill was Sponsored by Assemblywoman Valerie Huttle in 2018. The code which is similar with heat temperatures as the summer counterpart to winter’s code blue reading. “The bill defines an at-risk individual as an individual living outdoors or in poorly insulated settings who is at risk for weather-related exposure and possible death.” 1) the heat index is forecast to reach 95 degrees Fahrenheit to 99 degrees Fahrenheit for at least two consecutive days; or 2) the temperatures will reach 100 degrees Fahrenheit to 104 degrees Fahrenheit for any length of time. the Assembly bill can be read in full HERE! (and the info. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Heat fatalities are one of the leading weather-related causes of death stated in SOJO.net People on medications especially on psych. medications should not only stay out of prolonged heat but drink a lot of water as well.. NJ should have #CodeRed bill advocates and MH experts say.

NJ 211 will have cooling centers when the time comes, Bergen county also lists them as other counties do as well. contact 211 or www.nj211.org! LET’S GET NJ TO SIGN CODE RED INTO LAW! It is very important to stay hydrated as well! It wont be long before it get extremely hot out! If you can donate bottled water, here are some good local organizations; Transition professionals, Housing health & human services center, Operation chill out, Emmanuel Christian church, The River Mission  ….

Hackensack “Area”, as well as being the County Seat has many homeless shelters with a variety of functions. On Essex st. is Visions/Conklin home, (for youth) and “The Center” (adult shelter as well as service assessments) on River St. hen you also have the new Family shelter on Passaic St. is called HEARTS – (Housing, Emergency Shelter, Advocacy Resources, and Tools for Self-Sufficiency) For their Mission; CLICK HERE! Lastly about less than a mile away in Teterboro is “Bergen’s Place” youth homeless shelter! Click here if their pdf did not load properly. Not too far away is the DV shelter, offices in Rochelle park named “Shelter our sisters” (Now called Center for hope and safety)is also an important resource!
