What is code blue?

CODE BLUE NJ-What you need to know..

NJ by county does have code blue, but not all counties are letting their homeless know. Fact: Tom’s River,VIA Face Book& Passaic NJ Via North Jersey Media are two cities that are announcing code blue, Bergen, Passaic, Sussex does have code blue in place but Bergen has not yet publicly announced it to their homeless via TV, radio or other media outlets. Bergen County’s Code Blue shelter was secretly announced at first but then later publicly announced By CIT’s Face Book page.. The Text read in part; “Tonight is the first night of Code Blue Shelter in Bergen County! If you should work with or encounter someone who is homeless in Bergen County, the Bergen County Housing & Health Human Service Center (120 S. River Street, Hackensack) is ready to assist those in need.” The code blue law has been described by Daily Voice when County Exec. First announced the new program (partially funded by FEMA). Other county’s OEM’s have publicly declared Code Blue as well as City Of Newark VIA Fios1.If you are homeless in Bergen County, Passaic, or other north NJ county’s populations, you should head to the nearest Code Blue shelter! Bergen it is at “The Center” 120 so. River St. Hackensack NJ. NJ’s 211 also has “Warming Centers” information! The original press release as explained by the Daily voice is to call the Bergen’s Communications at 201-753-7762.

NOTE-AS OF JANUARY 1, 2020 THE STATE WIDE HOMELESS HOTLINE WILL BE 211!!

What is Code Blue in NJ? #CodeBlue is a Code weather event where; T he temperature is 32 degrees

Bergen County also has a winder “sit up shelter program” during certain times! The two Shelter programs are different! Sit up is between Dec. 14-March 15. Code Blue is any time the above stated temps are predicted and the County OEM must declare! Some towns even changed the Code Blue requirements to simplify and make better!

Need Mental Health Services?

There is definitely a shortage of Social workers! One program that can help is P.A.T.H.; [Project for Assistance in Transition from Homeless (PATH) Program] In Bergen County P.A.T.H. does homeless outreach as well as homeless prevention outreach and assessment! Each county has P.A.T.H. AS well. In Bergen call: 201-646-0333. If you need an assessment, a Mental Health clinic for non emergencies, homeless can utilize the “Urgent care clinic” of CBH care 7 days a week. call: (201) 957-1800. please note, the wellness clinic is not a medical emergency facility!

Funding Sources besides the small business grants, individuals may need some help as well.

Many of the resources for COVID-19 are at the new NJ COVID-19 INFO HUBCFA can also help you if you need ESG or first months rent and security deposit. as well as food. The Center is another resource! “The Center” in Hackensack: If someone needs to screen with the Next Step remote team for assistance and services, leave a message at 201-336-6480 with their phone number and email (if they have one). Someone will reach out to screen them.

CONTINUED While Hoboken’s Friendly faces” housing program is a success being a partnership with Government, private and other community Groups and agencies, Bergen has a different approach, which offers a one stop shop with most of the services and programs under one roof! BC’s housing Authority over sees “The Center” and The Center’s director and Christ Church’s Director and team do intakes, assessments and works with 211 and BCBSS with housing and other services homeless or “at risk of”. Especially during Covid19, NJ’s homeless needs to contact 211 as well as work on permanent housing.
