Similar to Code Blue, Many states have a #CodeRed for summer! The bill was Sponsored by Assemblywoman Valerie Huttle in 2018. The code which is similar with heat temperatures as the summer counterpart to winter’s code blue reading. “The bill defines an at-risk individual as an individual living outdoors or in poorly insulated settings who is at risk for weather-related exposure and possible death.” 1) the heat index is forecast to reach 95 degrees Fahrenheit to 99 degrees Fahrenheit for at least two consecutive days; or 2) the temperatures will reach 100 degrees Fahrenheit to 104 degrees Fahrenheit for any length of time. the Assembly bill can be read in full HERE! According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Heat fatalities are one of the leading weather-related causes of death stated in SOJO.net People on medications especially on psych. medications should not only stay out of prolonged heat but drink a lot of water as well.. NJ should have #CodeRed bill advocates and MH experts say.
